SAINT JOSEPH'S SPECIALTY CENTER AT COWLES CLINIC EXPANDS SERVICES

ATLANTA – (OCTOBER 10, 2008) – Orthopaedic specialist, Phillip R. Langer, MD, MS, has opened offices at the Saint Joseph's Specialty Center at Cowles Clinic, and began seeing patients on Friday, October 10.

"We are very pleased to have Dr. Langer join our other specialists at the Specialty Center," says Vickie Jenkins, director, physician services, Saint Joseph's Hospital. "The specialty center model was developed to provide a full range of specialty care and orthopaedics is a very important component in those services for the community."

Dr. Langer is a board-eligible orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery who treats shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle problems.   He is an Assistant Team Physician and Orthopedic Surgeon for the Atlanta Falcons NFL Football Team and the Atlanta Thrashers NHL Hockey Team. 

Dr. Langer is sub-specialty trained in Sports Medicine and arthroscopic surgery, as well as complex orthopedic trauma having completed two Fellowships following his residency training at Brown University. In 2007, he completed a Fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, one of the busiest Level I Trauma Centers in the country. Yet, his practice emphasis is in the treatment and surgery of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle, having completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery at the Miami Sports Medicine Program at Doctor's Hospital, Miami, Florida in 2008 under the direction of F. Harlan Selesnick, M.D. - Head Team Physician NBA Miami Heat.

Dr. Langer earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana, where he graduated cum laude in 1996. He received his Master of Science degree in 1997 in Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. He earned his medical degree in 2001 from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, D.C. and proceeded to a surgical internship at the prestigious Department of General Surgery at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from the Orthopedic Residency program in 2006 at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island.

Anup A. Shah, M.D.

Shoulder Reconstruction, Sports Medicine, and Arthroscopy

Anup A. Shah, MD is a dual fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon. He has completed fellowships in Sports Medicine/Arthroscopic Surgery and Shoulder Reconstruction. His specialties are sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, cartilage repair, and complex shoulder reconstruction. In addition, Dr. Shah will be an Assistant Team Physician and Orthopedic Surgeon for the NFL Atlanta Falcons and NHL Atlanta Thrashers.

Dr. Shah received his shoulder fellowship training at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital and his Sports Medicine/Arthroscopic Surgery fellowship at Baylor University. He completed his orthopaedic surgery internship and residency at the well-known University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

Dr. Shah will begin at ASMOC on September 1,2010.
