Family Eye Care Associates Opens Office at Cowles Clinic
September 17, 2007
The Cowles Clinic, the lake area’s largest multi-specialty medical center, is expanding again with the addition of new services and physicians in optometry and ophthalmology. Family Eye Care Associates has already been serving central Georgia for over 25 years from its main office in Milledgeville, and will now provide comprehensive eye care services and a complete eyeglass retail center at the Cowles Clinic. In addition to general optometry and ophthalmology care, Family Eye Care Associates at Cowles Clinic will also offer services in retinal, corneal and external eye disease, oculo-plastics, and ophthalmic laser therapies.
Dr. Robert Cowles, founder of the Cowles Clinic, readily welcomed the new eye care team. “Family Eye Care Associates is already well-known in Central Georgia for providing the highest standard of ophthalmic care,†he said. “We are proud to partner with them for the health of our patients, neighbors and friends. Their addition to the Cowles Clinic furthers our goal of bringing the highest quality physicians and services to our lake community.â€
Family Eye Care Associates was founded in 1980 by ophthalmologist Dr. C. Stephen McQuaig. He was then joined in 1983 by Dr. C. Davis Williamson, also an ophthalmologist. Drs. McQuaig and Williamson have over 50 years combined experience in eye care and are board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Both are central Georgia natives, having studied at the University of Georgia in Athens for their undergraduate degrees, and at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta for their medical degrees. Both physicians performed ophthalmology residencies at Medical College of Georgia as well. Dr. McQuaig’s son, Dr. Charles McQuaig, and Dr. James Craig, both board-certified optometrists, joined later and round out the general eye care team.
Family Eye Care also has a close association with board certified physicians Dr. Dennis Marcus, a retinal specialist; Dr. Barry Lee, an external eye disease/corneal specialist; and Dr. Brent Murphy, an oculo-plastics specialist. Each of these physicians will practice regularly at the new Cowles Clinic location.
Family Eye Care Associates at Cowles Clinic will be temporarily housed in Cowles Clinic’s newly completed Oak Cottage, sharing space with Cowles Clinic’s Internal Medicine and Executive Health departments. The eye team will then relocate to their permanent home next door in the Willow Cottage, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Over one thousand square feet of space in the new building will be devoted to a complete eyeglass, eyewear and accessories retail center, which will also offer the area’s largest selection of designer sunglasses.
Appointments are already being scheduled, and physicians are available full time. Appointments may be made by calling (706) 999-2020. The offices are located in the Oak Cottage, Suite O-300 until completion of the new Willow Cottage in December.
