Dr. Richard Baehler Joins Cowles Clinic Internal Medicine

7 Internal Medicine services have now been expanded at Cowles Clinic with the addition of Richard Baehler, M.D. as a partner in the new Cowles Clinic Internal Medicine practice. Dr. Bob Cowles, Cowles Clinic’s founder, recently welcomed Dr. Baehler to the staff.

“Dr. Baehler brings his experience in both internal medicine and nephrology to our community. These specialties are in demand by our growing population that needs greater access to primary care and specialized treatment in kidney disorders and disease,” stated Dr. Cowles. “The goal of Cowles Clinic is to meet all healthcare needs on one campus that is close to home. Dr. Baehler is helping us to achieve that vision,” said Dr. Cowles.

Richard Baehler, M.D. Internal Medicine and Nephrology will be joining with John M. McCurley, M.D. Internal Medicine and Medical Director of Cowles Clinic in full time practice of adult wellness, disease prevention and treatment of mild, chronic and acute illness.

Dr. Baehler is a native of Youngstown, OH. He attended medical school at Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI. His internship and residency in Internal Medicine were served at the Department of Medicine, Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, where he went on to complete a fellowship in Nephrology in the Division of Renal Disease.

Dr. Baehler has served in numerous hospital and administrative appointments including Section Chief of Internal Medicine and Section Chief of Nephrology at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, KY; Assistant Professor of Medicine, University of Kentucky Medical Center and Section Chief of Renal Medicine, Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lexington, KY. As a published author, he has written extensively on renal disease for numerous medical publications including Kidney International and Annals of Internal Medicine. He has been actively engaged in medical research serving in the capacity of both a primary investigator and sub investigator in renal disease. Dr. Baehler is board certified in Internal Medicine with subspecialty in Nephrology. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Society of Nephrology.

Dr. Baehler most recently served as a staff physician at Nephrology Associates in Lexington, KY, which he co-founded in 1980. He and his wife, Roseanne, reside in the Lake Oconee area. They have two adult children and two grandchildren.

Dr. McCurley is a former staff physician in the Office of the Attending Physician to U.S. Congress where he provided care to members of the House of Representatives, Senate and Supreme Court. Most recently, he served as staff internist and Interim Medical Director at the Naval Health Clinic in Annapolis, MD prior to coming to Cowles Clinic as Medical Director, Director of Executive Health and staff internal medicine physician.

Cowles Clinic Internal Medicine is now accepting new patients. With the focus on adult healthcare, Dr. Baehler and Dr. McCurley have years of expertise. Care is coordinated in the campus office and, if needed, in the hospital setting. The resources of the Cowles Clinic’s 40 sub-specialists create a full healthcare team that work in concert to assure that all health concerns are addressed. A full range of laboratory and radiological testing capabilities include Computed Tomography (CT), MRI, Bone Densitometry and X-ray available on campus.

Cowles Clinic Internal Medicine's office hours are 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. weekdays and closed Tuesdays. Appointments may be made by calling (706) 453-2919. The office is located in the Aspen Cottage, Suite A-100 until the completion of the new Internal Medicine cottage in August.
