Known for his compassionate and caring approach with patients, Board Certified general surgeon Rick Finley, MD, is among Atlanta’s most skilled minimally invasive surgeons. What this means to patients is less pain, less risk, and quicker recovery times than those generally experienced by patients who undergo open abdominal procedures, or surgery performed the 'old way'. Dr. Charles Finley is Chief of General Surgery at Crawford Long Hospital of Emory University and a Clinical Instructor at Emory University School of Medicine.

Among his specialties are Laparoscopic and Robotic Assisted Vertical Sleeve Gastrecotmy, Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass and Adjustable Lap-Band™ bariatric surgery. Dr. Finley is at the forefront of this revolution in treatment for the morbidly obese. The term means that excess weight is not only preventing people from engaging in normal activity, it also is actually killing them. Dr. Finley has been able to help many patients from the age of 15 and older enjoy healthier, more active lifestyles with the aid of Weight Loss Surgery.

Dr. Finley is also a laparoscopic pioneer in surgery for gastro-esophageal reflux disease or GERD and diseases of the colon. The author of numerous scholarly publications and presentations, Dr. Finley is Chief of General Surgery at Emory University Hospital Midtown.

A Phi Beta Kappa undergraduate of Emory College, he earned his medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine in 1983. His post-graduate training included Internship and Residency in General Surgery at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals. He served as Chief Resident in General Surgery in 1987-1988.

Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Medical Association of Georgia, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, the American Hernia Society, the American Society of General Surgeons and the United States Laparoscopic Founders Society.
